Part Three - Dalcroze Eurhythmics

Our musical play is largely based on the methods and

principles of the Swiss educator Emile Jacques-Dalcroze.

It is designed to help children develop rapid connections

between the ears that listen, the brain that analyzes, and the

body that acts to interpret the messages encoded in the

 music.

For example, when we do "drum walking" we encourage

children to act out the dynamics of the drum.  We start with a

steady walking beat.  A lighter beat indicates a tip-toe, a

sharper beat, a march.  A faster cadence signals a run.

 Another sound cues a 360 degree turn-around.

In a game called "Tap It!" children walk the room in a circle,

equipped with rhythm sticks.  There are drums to tap

distributed throughout the room.  The children must conform

their actions to the music, so that they arrive at a drum in time

to tap "1-2-3!" with the the song.
